Rome was wonderful! The Roma Tribal Meeting was wonderful! Julia, Elisabeth and Tina took part in many workshops, learned an incredible amount, met many already familiar faces and even more new ones, plundered the brilliant bazaar and of course sightseeing, good food and a drink or two were not neglected.

The time in Rom was also put to good use as we were able to record new interviews for our series “FCBD Faces”. Go check out our YouTube channel!

Julia took part in the Performance Intensive with Francesca Pedretti and was therefore also on stage on Saturday. A video of this will follow shortly. The same is true for the video “Caravan – A Dance Journey”… Both Julia and Tina took part in the second edition of this exciting project. It celebrated its premiere during the online show!

In addition, we were lucky enough to participate in the online show for the second time. Here you can watch our contribution, which we recorded together with the Ur-Ton Trommelern at Pöstlingberg, Linz:

A Virtual Celebration of Spring! We are incredibly proud to be part of this global online event! The FatChanceBellyDance Style University called for video performances celebrating spring. Due to the strong participation – there will be over 50 videos from groups around the world – the event has been split into 3 dates.

Awakening of spring

Our video was made together with Anneliese and Margit from Anam Chara and with a lot of support from family and friends, whether in front of or behind the cameras. <3

The concept for this video was found very quickly, because it literally came to Julia in a dream. When she woke up the next morning, she excitedly called Tina to tell her everything and then we all started planning.

Our video can already be found on YouTube or in our media library.

It’s so nice when you can exchange ideas with other groups from your own country. In August, we were able to participate in both the outdoor party and the online show of Caravanseray Vienna.

Here you can see the video that we produced for the online show and of course the full show itself!

Here are our performance at the outdoor party and the complete playlist of the show!

Outdoorparty – Pictures by Florian Hölbling:

We just love to dance! Since Nicole is currently in the US to spend some time with her family and Marisa is taking some time off, Julia, Elisabeth and Tina are the ones who are the most active at the moment… And they are not slowing down!

In addition to regular trainings and the LVL 3 course, various photo and video shoots were also on the agenda. Currently, we are mostly working on our performances for Nakari Dance Company‘s Caravanseray.

Here you can get a first glance of what to expect:

After online-only classes during lockdowns, we’ve since returned to our beloved studio and continue to train diligently there. This also gives us an opportunity for joint dancing with the Anam Charas, who are in the studio right after our class.

Of course we don’t want to withhold a few pictures from an evening together!

Shortly after our founding, we had the honour to make our first appearance in the summer of 2021. It was the online show of the Roma Tribal Meeting and for Nicole and Tina this first step into the public eye was something very special, as they were still at the very beginning of their dance journey.

Here you can watch our Video:

Here is the complete show:

As was the case in 2020, the Roma Tribal Meeting with all its exciting workshops and of course performances will only take place digitally this year.

Even though it is not the same as meeting in real life, we are really looking forward to it and have already booked various workshops. What makes us especially happy is the fact, that we were asked to submit a video for the online performance – our first performance as a group! Having been together for only half a year, this was an exciting project that we tackled right away….

Elisabeth (Anam Chara), Julia, Tina & Nicole

Preparation under difficult circumstances:

Unfortunately it was clear almost from the start that Marisa would not be able to dance with us, as she was still recovering from surgery. So for this project it was down to 4 dancers, since we had already invited Elisabeth from Anam Chara to join us as a guest. We really enjoyed (at least virtually) dancing with her. After we had decided on a slow dance and the right music, Julia started to conceptualize our dance and Tina started with the graphic preparations for editing. Nicole and Elisabeth even designed and crafted new coin bras, and we were all really excited and ready to go. But then our schedule almost fell apart, because Julia got sick, but she did not let it get her down and somehow still managed to prepare us very well for our filming.

These took place individually due to the current Covid regulations, so a lot of things had to be discussed in advance to make sure that everything would go well together. From costumes to camera angles and lighting. Even though we would have preferred to dance together, it was still a lot of fun to see each other’s videos one by one, and to get a first impression of what the final video might turn out to be like…

And now comes the most difficult part….. Waiting until our performance will be published at Roma Tribal Meeting at the end of the month and until we can finally share the result with you!

Between the lockdowns we used the time to take care of our photo material. In 2 sessions we took some pictures of all members, which we of course used for this website.

Here a little insight:

After only 5 hours in the studio, the lockdown unfortunately got in the way. But we didn’t get discouraged and just continued our course online via Zoom.

Of course, it was an adjustment at first, but it actually works surprisingly well. From learning new steps, fine-tuning the technique to joint flows, where you can also swap the lead. Of course, you can’t go around in circles and do fades together… But we are very happy to at least have this option.

At the end of the first beginner course, there was even a small online performance for the members of Anam Chara. Here we have collected a few impressions from our first course for you:

This year presents us all with new challenges. So how do we deal with it? What does that mean for Anam Damhsa?

Let’s say in advance that of course we dove into this new project full of motivation and would love to do everything at the same time. But in everything, safety always comes first!

Courses:

Fortunately, we are currently able to run our first course for beginners in compliance with all regulations. We are a very small group with enough space and distance. Nevertheless, caution is of course called for and we adhere to all recommendations, such as regular airing or hand washing and have equipped the studio with disinfectant.

If the situation continues to allow it, our following courses will also take place as planned. But of course we will keep you informed!

Practice:

Even without Covid19, it is often not so easy to train locally with those who move us forward. After all, FCBD® is not limited locally, but a worldwide community. Fortunately, there was already the possibility of online trainings via video chat before…

For example, Julia regularly participates in the online classes of Gudrun Herold from Dance Sisters Collective.

Participation in Events:

As a young group, we would of course be happy to soon be able to participate in workshops and events and exchange ideas with others. We just stay optimistic, focus on our training and see how it will go in the coming year.
